Last Minute Tips for #GivingTuesday

A plan for those without a plan!

If you haven’t yet nailed down your #GivingTuesday plan, you might feel like it’s too late to have a successful campaign. Even if you have a campaign plan in place, you might feel a little stressed that #GivingTuesday is next week.

There’s still time to join this international day of giving and get ready for your campaign, but you need to lock in on the essentials and get moving. Need some help? We’ve compiled our top tips for maximizing this opportunity.

Tip 1: Register your Organization

Visit givingtuesday.org/join now to join the #GivingTuesday community and create your profile so others can find you easily.

Tip 2: Leverage your Friends

Identify 5 of your closest friends/advocates and send them an email this week asking if they can help share your message on Facebook on Tuesday Dec. 1. If they are a donor or corporation, ask if they want to do a matching grant on that day instead of just a one-time gift. Check out CVNL Member Conservation Corps North Bay’s message on Facebook for a great example.

Tip 3: Tell a Story

Use this opportunity to show what your nonprofit stands for and the direct effect of donating. Establish a resonant story and message to capture new members/donors. Check out CVNL Member Italian Street Painting Marin, who did an excellent job creating an event for their campaign, setting a clear goal, and telling their supporters how their dollars are helping. Check out their #GivingTuesday event page.

Tip 4: Utilize Social Media

Empower your donors and social followers to help tell your story. Give them a fun challenge where they can share their story about your organization. Fashion posts on Facebook and Twitter that start conversations with your organization. Make sure to use the #GivingTuesday hashtag, like CVNL Members Amigos de las Américas and Buckelew Programs. This hashtag ensures that your message shows up on the national twitter feed.

Tip 5: Be Courageous

Don’t be shy! We love how one of our Members, Paperseed Foundation, used infographics to make a statement. Break through the noise and don’t be discouraged if the first time doesn’t work. Remember: with social media algorithms, people don’t always see your message. You can have the story and heart, but there is a science behind posting frequency. Learn more here.

We hope these tips help you share the story about the work you are doing in Marin and the greater Bay Area. #GivingTuesday can just be the start of a philanthropic journey with your donors.

Don’t forget to tag CVNL in your posts so we can help share your cause!
