Celebrate World Environment Day at Lake Solano on June 6th
Lake Solano County Park, CA (May 19, 2026): Solano Resource Conservation District invites volunteers to join Solano County’s World Environment Day cleanup and celebration on Saturday, June 6th at 9am at Lake Solano County Park.
World Environment Day is one of the world’s largest international days for the environment, highlighting individual and community projects that address our world’s most pressing environmental issues. At Lake Solano Park and at Lake Berryessa, volunteers will help clean up trash and recyclable beverage containers from around waterways vital to our region.
In addition to helping the environment by cleaning up trash, participants will have many different opportunities to enjoy the park. Putah Creek Council will be giving tours of the native plant demonstration garden, and Solano RCD will host a macroinvertebrate viewing station and a “seed bar” for assembling take-home native wildflower seed packets. Families with younger children, especially, will have fun taking photos with Bilgee, the Lake Berryessa mascot.
Maddie Galal, Stewardship Coordinator with Putah Creek Council, noted that the Native Plant Demonstration Garden tour will be an opportunity for attendees to “learn about local native plants and their benefits. Planted in early 2025, this new garden features species that are important for Putah Creek wildlife and have cultural value.”
Registration for the event is required and can be completed at cleanupsolano.org. Everyone who registers by May 31st will receive a free picnic lunch after the cleanup.
Lake Berryessa is the seventh largest reservoir in California, created by damming Putah Creek. It delivers high-quality drinking water to hundreds of thousands of Solano County residents, making it even more important that we keep it as clean as possible.
“This is a great way to make sure our local parks and lakes are clean for the beginning of the summer season,” noted Robyn Slater, the Cleanup Coordinator from Solano Resource Conservation District. “Volunteers should invite their friends, family, and neighbors to join in the cleanup and the other fun activities we have planned!”
Funding for the World Environment Day event is provided by Napa County Flood Control and Water Conservation, Solano Resource Conservation District, and local partners. In-kind support is contributed by the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership. Additional support for this year’s event is being provided by Solano County Parks, Putah Creek Council, and the US Bureau of Reclamation.
