Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) is pleased to announce that John McCue joined the Daraja Education Fund in San Rafael as Interim Executive Director of Development on July 5, 2016.
Located in San Rafael, the Daraja Education Fund is a nonprofit dedicated to raising funds to support the Daraja Academy, a top-rated school for girls in Kenya. Operated and managed by Kenyans, the Daraja Academy provides shelter, food, healthcare and counseling services so that students can focus on their academic and personal potential without the everyday barriers they would otherwise face.
John will oversee all aspects of the Daraja Education Fund as the founding leaders, Jason and Jenni Doherty, transition to their enhanced roles for expanding and maintaining the critical relationships with Daraja Academy Kenya’s volunteers and donors. During the interim period, John will support the Board in its governance functions, complete an assessment and provide recommendations for an organizational restructure and develop an action plan to ensure successful communication, marketing and fundraising initiatives.
Daraja Education Fund’s Board President, Dr. Lee Ann Patterson said, “I am pleased to welcome John to the Daraja family. His extensive experience as an interim executive director ensures that John will hit the ground running to help us achieve our goals. His outstanding nonprofit leadership experience combined with his background in consensus management techniques is the perfect combination for Daraja.”
John has served for more than 26 years in both full-time and interim executive roles, developing organizations with little preexisting infrastructure. This work has provided John with a strong generalist background in finance, organizational development, human resources, compliance, and fund development. He has designed and implemented successful fund development initiatives in organizations where there had been none, and has worked successfully with non-profit Boards of Directors, as the executive, as a consultant and as a Board member. He has lead strategic planning and implementation efforts with Boards and other stakeholders, and managed accredited organizations effectively incorporating best practices and technology.
“I am struck by the seemingly simple vision with such potential for transformative impact on the lives of the young women that Daraja directly serves, and of their communities and beyond. I welcome the opportunity to work in support of the Daraja Academy and its mission,” said McCue.
Please join CVNL in welcoming John McCue as the Interim Executive Director of Development for the Daraja Education Fund.
