Management Essentials is an in-person two-day comprehensive program designed to equip first time to seasoned people managers with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles. The program begins by exploring management fundamentals, differentiating between leadership and management, and highlighting the essential qualities of effective managers. It delves into building high-performing teams, emphasizing team collaboration, conflict resolution, and project management. Effective communication is a key focus, with strategies for clear communication and active listening.

The program also covers performance management, offering techniques for setting goals and providing feedback. Decision-making and problem-solving skills are developed through various models and risk analysis tips. Time management and prioritization strategies are discussed to help managers set priorities and delegate tasks efficiently. The program addresses the challenges of leading organizational change, managing resistance, and implementing changes effectively. Finally, it covers discipline and corrective action processes, including the use of SBI models and performance improvement plans, ensuring managers are well-rounded and prepared to handle diverse managerial responsibilities.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the role and key responsibilities of a manager, differentiating between leadership and management, and applying the essential skills and qualities of an effective manager.
  • Develop strategies for team building and fostering collaboration, and provide tips for resolving conflicts and managing team dynamics.
  • Effectively apply different communication styles and their impact on team dynamics, and provide strategies for active listening and clear communication.
  • Apply appropriate techniques for setting performance expectations and goals, and discuss effective feedback strategies and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Management competencies:  Decision making, problem solving, time management and prioritization, leading change and managing resistance, discipline and corrective action processes.

  • 10% discount for groups of 3 of more registering from the same organization, OR
  • 10% discount for organizations with budget size < $750K, OR
  • 20% early bird discount (Early Bird Deadline: Aug 16; Early Bird discounted rate automatically applied at checkout)

BIPOC Scholarship:
BIPOC scholarship is available for BIPOC participants of nonprofit organizations. Priorities are given to CVNL members.  Scholarship recipients do not have to be from a CVNL member organization.

NOTE: In order for participants to earn certificates and eBadges for the L&L programs, they must attend at least 80% of the sessions, e.g. if there are five sessions to the series, the participant may only miss one session and still earn the certificate and eBadges. 

Cancellation policy: If plans change and you are no longer able to attend, we will transfer your enrollment and payment to the next program cycle. Funds must be applied and used within a 6 (six) month period. We do not offer refunds.
