About the Speaker: Andy Stephens, Associate Director of Volunteer Services
Andy Stephens is a collaborative leader with unique experience in program development and administration. With over a decade of experience primarily working with nonprofit agencies, Andy has excelled in creating and leading programs that foster personal growth, equitable access, and community engagement in underserved communities. Andy holds a Master of Arts in Program Administration and Development from Prescott College and a BA in Environmental/Experiential Education.
His tenure as Senior Program Director with Sierra Nevada Journeys — a 501(c)(3) that delivers innovative outdoor, STEM-based education programs for youth set on a 1,600-acre property in the Sierra Valley — highlights his ability to drive program excellence and innovation. His work there resulted in significant improvements in DEIB outcomes and he was instrumental in achieving full program accreditation and ensuring high standards in program delivery and safety. His non-hierarchical approach to leading his team allowed for continued growth opportunities and valuable open conversation from employees on the ground, enabling the organization to thrive post-pandemic.
Andy’s dedication to equitable access and education is reflected in his personal pursuits as well. He’s a former wilderness guide in Alaska, Utah, and Sonora, Mexico, and holds a Wilderness First Responder certification. Andy’s free time is spent enjoying the outdoors and all that Northern California has to offer with his wife Natalie, son Jack, and lab Otis.
