Board Governance Boot Camp — Structure, Committees, and Assessment
April 28, 2021, 9:00-10:30am ($150 for CVNL members, $200 for non-members)
This series is ideal for nonprofit Executive Directors/CEOs and nonprofit board members. Board chairs and those serving in an officer position, or are thinking of doing so, will find the sessions particularly useful.
Strong, smart boards are critical to the health of your nonprofit organization. Despite their passion, nonprofit board members don’t always come to the job with experience in things like nonprofit fundraising or governance. Our three-part series on board governance, led by Linda Jacobs, CEO of CVNL, helps organizations diagnose their boards’ needs and equip their board members with the right training and resources to take their leadership to the next level. From building a board to performance metrics, these sessions aim to maximize the engagement of your nonprofit’s biggest advocates and allies.
Board governance practices are divided into the following 3 sessions: Fundamentals, Structure, and Development.
Session 2 on Structure, Committees, and Assessment is the second installment of a three-part series, although you can attend any of the sessions individually. Without a strong structure, boards can fall prey to a whole host of dysfunctions, including wasted time, boring or unfocused meetings, and lack of strategic engagement from the board. This course will dive deeper into specific structures and assessment practices that strengthen nonprofit boards.
Specific topics will include:
- Committees, task teams, and advisory council structures and functions
- Running productive board meetings
- Board and Chief Executive Assessment
