Background
Founded in 1977, Halleck Creek Ranch (HCR) invites people with disabilities, and their families,
to live a “life without barriers” through equine-assisted activities and therapeutic horseback
riding. HCR was recently gifted RockRose Ranch, an additional, 120-acre horse ranch nearby in
Nicasio, upon which they intend to expand their programming and efforts to fulfill their

Position Summary
Halleck Creek Ranch is looking for an experienced Marketing and Communications Manager to
join our team. Working closely with the Executive Director, the position will manage and
advance the agency’s communications and marketing efforts, supporting programming,
fundraising, and individual giving campaigns.
The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and creative thinker, with outstanding
project management, presentation and organizational skills. The role is a good fit for a
professional who is self-directed, a proven team player, flexible, and consistently meets
deadlines. The right person will take pride in delivering high-quality work and thrive in
managing a variety of projects in a fast-paced environment.

involve or align with other roles, including the Development and Grants Manager.
Job Description: HCR Marketing & Communications Manager

Responsibilities Overview
To meet objectives, responsibilities will involve collaborating and aligning efforts with the
Executive Director and Development & Grants Manager.
● Develop and implement marketing and communications strategies to enhance visibility,
community engagement, program participation, and donor support across all areas of the
organization.
● Partner with the Executive Director and Development & Grants Manager to support
fundraising efforts, including capital campaigns, through online, digital, and in-person
materials.
● Strengthen HCR’s brand, voice, and reputation within the donor and broader community
(participants, families, volunteers, staff).
● Create engaging content (stories, graphics, audio, video) to connect people to HCR’s
mission, drive fundraising, and encourage community engagement.
● Represent HCR as an ambassador at public speaking events, articulating the mission and
goals.
● Contribute to team initiatives, including systems implementation and process
improvements.
● Manage online platforms for fundraising campaigns, including GiveSmart.
● Support donor and grant management within relevant databases.
● Provide quarterly updates to the Board of Directors on key activities and progress.
Key Responsibility Areas
● Promote volunteer, philanthropic, and community engagement opportunities through
targeted marketing across multiple platforms.
● Develop and maintain a comprehensive communications plan across all program areas,
including a content calendar.
● Create, manage and evaluate the effectiveness of communications campaigns through
social media, email, and other channels.
● Create marketing materials to support fundraising campaigns, program outreach, and
community engagement, including appeal letters, brochures, web content, ads, and
materials for participant and volunteer recruitment.
● Collaborate with the Development & Grants Manager to drive innovative online
fundraising strategies.
● Coordinate with the team to gather and manage images, videos, and impact stories.
● Share testimonials, program data, and success stories to highlight HCR’s impact.
● Use analytics to track and improve the effectiveness of communications strategies.
Background and Experience
● Minimum of B.A. or B.S. degree, or relevant combination of education and experience in
communications, marketing, fundraising and or resource development.
● Three (3) to five (5) years of professional-level experience in fundraising,
communications, development, and/or marketing, preferably in a foundation or
nonprofit setting.
● Extensive knowledge of marketing, branding, and communications best practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Strong written, interpersonal, and digital communication skills with the ability to
persuade and engage audiences.
● Proven experience building brand awareness and executing marketing strategies,
preferably in a non-profit or mission-driven context.
● Expertise in marketing across digital, web, print, and social media platforms.
● Excellent organizational, project management, and analytical skills, with the ability to
manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
● High initiative and self-direction, with the ability to work independently and
collaboratively.
● Adaptable and strategic thinker, able to improve processes and goals in evolving
environments.
● Creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills for complex situations.
● Experience with web-based document management tools and software systems.
● Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Google Drive, Zoom, Adobe, and other office
technologies.
● Experience with donor databases (e.g., eTapestry, Better Impact) a plus.
● Proficient in social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn) and
social media marketing tools.
● Experience in SEO & Content Strategy – Conduct keyword research, optimize website
pages (titles, meta descriptions, headers), implement local SEO, build backlinks, and
track performance using tools like Google Analytics and Search Console.
● Knowledge of website optimization – Ensure mobile-friendly design, improve site speed,
enhance accessibility (WCAG compliance), and optimize donation/conversion pathways
through A/B testing and analytics.
● Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and good judgment.
● Sensitivity to diverse perspectives and communication styles in a multicultural
environment.

Preferred:
● Knowledge of the non-profit sector, therapeutic riding, equine-assisted services, or
working with individuals with disabilities.
● Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software, and website design.
● Bilingual in Spanish (verbal/written).
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This job operates in a professional office environment in a ranch setting. This role routinely uses
standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an
employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties
of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires the ability
to sit at a desk/computer terminal for extended periods of time; and periodic standing, walking,
bending and reaching; and may require employee to lift office products and supplies, up to 20
pounds. On occasion the employee may be asked to work evenings and weekends.
On occasion the employee may be asked to directly support lessons by leading, sidewalking,
tacking, or other various tasks. In which case, they must be able to walk up to 3 miles a day on
uneven terrain, stand for prolonged periods, and lift up to 40 pounds. They also must have
knowledge of or a willingness to learn humane horse handling, horsemanship principles and
practices.
