Vallejo, CA, April 18, 2023 Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is a national campaign that encourages people and organizations everywhere to come together on a single day to take action to raise awareness and reduce wildfire risks. The event is held across the United States and Canada on the first Saturday in May, with a purpose of educating, and supporting residents to take actions around their home and in their communities to help protect against the threat of wildfires.
Robyn Rains, Solano County Emergency Services Manager, states “Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is a great annual event to help our community learn how they can reduce the risk of wildfire and protect their home and family.”
In conjunction with the national campaign, Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL), Solano Volunteers, and partners Vallejo Watershed Alliance, Greater Vallejo Recreation District, Office of the Governor, and California Climate Action Corps, a program of California Volunteers, will be hosting a local community preparedness and wildfire prevention event for Solano County residents.

All are welcome (ages 10+)! The public is invited to attend and volunteer with family and friends to learn about wildfire preparedness and help remove fire-prone invasive species from our local parks. Register in advance. Event details provided with registration. Volunteers must be age 10 and older.
“We are thrilled to join the Vallejo Watershed Alliance, the Greater Vallejo Recreation District, and CVNL to help protect Vallejo’s hidden gem, Hanns Park, from threats of wildfire,” said Jennifer Kaiser Nelson, Public Information Officer at Vallejo Flood & Wastewater District. “We work throughout the year along the creek corridor and several other waterways throughout Vallejo to reduce trash and improve wildlife habitat, and we invite the public to join us at this and other events. The Hanns Park Wildfire Community Preparation Event is part of the Climate Impact Wildfire Prevention Project whose mission is to engage community members in Days of Service wildfire prevention events where they will remove fire-prone vegetation and help make our communities more firesafe.
